Michael Batten Takes Sandra Miller Memorial Win At Lake View
• For Immediate Release
LAKE VIEW, SC (June 15) – Rocky Mount, NC driver Michael Batten led flag-to-flag for his second Late Model win of the year Saturday night at Lake View Motor Speedway in the Sandra Miller Memorial.
After qualifying on the pole position, Batten led the field into turn one on the opening lap. The first caution of the race waved on lap six when Bill McDaniels spun in turn one. Despite a caution with seven laps to go waving after Johnny Pridgen stopped on the track with a flat tire, Batten would not be challenged as he took the win. Rounding out the top five were Michael Marlowe, Shaun Harrell, Bradley McCaskill, and Bryan Ridgeway.
Ron Pope grabbed the lead on lap seven and led the rest of the way for the Carolina Outlaw Super Street win. Johnny Moore and Donovan Jackson were up front but had dual spins in turn three, handing the lead to Benji Thompson. Pope made his move five laps later, passing Chris Powers on the outside in turn three, then turning down to the inside to pass Thompson for the lead. The caution waved again with six laps to go when Powers spun down the backstretch while battling Jackson for second. Following Pope to the finish line were Jackson, Moore, Jonathan Hardee and David Royal.
Terry Caples grabbed the lead from polesitter Cameron Holloway at the drop of the green flag and led the rest of the way for the Street Stock win. The caution waved on the opening lap for a spin by Tony Truett in turn two that collected Kenny King and Dalton Coursey. John Harper Livingston made his way to second but spun on lap five, collecting Mike Coursey, Michael Butler and others. Following Caples at the finish were Blaise Bryant, Cameron Norris, IV, Ryan Touchberry, and Andrew Register.
Scott Lewis bounced back from tough luck last time out to edge out Chucky Nicholson in a photo finish for his second Fred’s Tire & Auto Stock V8 win of the year. Ed Mason was running second until lap five when a solo spin in turn two brought out the caution flag. Nicholson and Lewis had an amazing battle for second with Lewis taking the win by a nose. Rounding out the top five were Derek Kemper, Chip Fenoff, and Anthony Morris.
Jason Brown led every lap for his second straight SCDRA Morrisonbuilt Performance Sport Compact win of the season. Rounding out the top five were Jerry Johnson, Julio Cifuentes, Chelsey Richardson, and Patrick Duchaine.
Brian Mercer led flag-to-flag for his first Econo 4 win of the year over Daniel McLeod, Randy Lewis, Paul Hewlett, and Ethan Jumper.
Mike Bowman was the Modified winner over Tim Clemons and Kyle Whitney.
