HARRELL - HULMES TAKE FEATURE WINS AT LAKE VIEW
• For Immediate Release
LAKE VIEW, SC (June 1) – Shaun Harrell and Scott Hulmes shared feature wins in the Late Model and Modified divisions Saturday night at Lake View Motor Speedway. Harrell’s second Late Model win of the season came in the JD Pridgen Memorial, while Hulmes scored the $1500 win in the Modified division.
After running the fastest lap in qualifying, Harrell started outside the first row and quickly jumped into the lead. The caution waved on lap six for spins in turn three involving Woody Cromartie and Randy McClamb. Harrell was never challenged as he took home the checkered flag worth $2500 over Michael Marlowe, AJ Belanger, Bradley McCaskill, and Johnny Pridgen. Rounding out the top 10 were David Baker, Derrick McGrew, Jr., Matt Pridgen, McClamb, and Bill McDaniels.
Hulmes win in the Modified division came after a wild start that took out several contenders. Matt Smith tried to split between Pete Serra and Hulmes on the start, but was tagged in the right rear exiting turn two, turning him violently into the outside guardrail. Sonny Cox, Erica Bowman, and Jacky Gerald then piled into Smith’s idle car. Luckily, all drivers were okay. Derrick McGrew, Jr. grabbed the early lead over Serra, who spun from second place on lap nine. Just two laps later, McGrew would suffer a mechanical failure, handing the lead to Hulmes. Hulmes led the rest of the way for the win over Shane Kassekert, Kyle Whitney, Serra, and David Van Buren.
Mike Manes made his first start of the season at Lake View count, leading every lap for the Street Stock victory. The first caution of the race occurred on lap five when Brandon Grimsley spun on the front straightaway. Michael Butler and Blaise Bryant had an excellent battle for second place going until they both spun in turn four with six laps to go. Following Manes to the finish line were Cameron Norris, IV, Joey Wilkes, Andrew Register, and Jaden Locklear.
Defending Fred’s Tire & Auto Stock V8 champion, Chucky Nicholson, inherited his first win of the season when the leaders took each other out on the last lap. Chip Fenoff and Scott Lewis traded the lead back and forth throughout the race, but a bump from Fenoff entering turn three sent Lewis spinning on the last lap and both drivers out of contention for the win. Following Nicholson at the finish were Jason Floyd, Fenoff, Chance Mincey, and Derek Kemper.
Jason Brown led every lap en route to his first SCDRA Morrisonbuilt Performance Sport Compact win of the year. Rounding out the top five were Collin Brown, Julio Cifuentes, Patrick Duchaine, and Chelsey Richardson.
The Mod Lites made their first trip of the season to Lake View and it was Troy Van Allen taking the win. Steve Dunn was the leader at the start, but was relegated to second after an outside pass by Van Allen on lap four. Despite a challenge by Eddie Daniels on a restart, Van Allen would not be denied taking the win over Daniels, Dunn, Scott Davis, Jr., and George Chason.
Jeremy Cumbee was the winner in the Bell & Bell Vintage Modified feature.
The next event at Lake View Motor Speedway will be the Sandra Miller Memorial Saturday night, June 15 and will feature the Late Models racing for $2500 to win and double points, plus Carolina Outlaw Super Streets, Open Wheel Modifieds, Street Stocks, Fred’s Tire & Auto Stock V8s, and Econo 4s.
