Andrew Smith Dominates For $5,000 SCDRA Win At Lake View

  • For Immediate Release

LAKE VIEW, SC (April 27) – Savannah, GA driver Andrew Smith grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag of the SCDRA 40-lap feature to lead every lap en route to his second Beach Bash win Saturday night at Lake View Motor Speedway.
Smith got the better of fast qualifier and new track record holder, Payne Pickles, to lead the opening lap. The hardest crash of the race occurred on lap three when Casey Spears slammed the frontstretch wall and collected Eddie McGrew and Chris Martin as he spun across the track. Pickles maintained close contact with Smith, but could never mount a significant challenge for the lead. Pickles eventually fell out late in the race after contact with John Windham on a restart. Following Smith at the finish were Reid Christensen, Walker Windham, Shannon Weaver, and Josh Adkins. Rounding out the top 10 were Jason Brown, Jerry Gibson, Jr., Joey Kelly, Kyle Jenks, and Isaac Gibson. Alyssa Kelley was the winner of the SCDRA Young Lions race over Frankie Sharp, Dalton McGrew, Spencer Whisnant, and Gauge Hutchinson.
Michael Batten started from the pole position of the 17-car Late Model field and led every lap to win the first points paying race of the season. Batten survived several dicey situations in lapped traffic for the win over 2022 track champion, Christian Thomas, Shaun Harrell, Michael Marlowe, and AJ Belanger.
Tom Lovett looked to be cruising to a win in the Fred’s Tire & Auto Stock V8 division until late-race problems allowed Chip Fenhoff to move by for his second win of the year. The race began with a caution flag when polesitter Scott Lewis and Richard Seals crashed on the backstretch. Fenhoff eluded trouble of his own on lap six when Ed Mason nearly spun in turn four causing a chain reaction that caught up Fenhoff, Jason Floyd, Derek Kemper, and Chris Gerald. Lovett led until lap 18 when his car lost pace allowing Fenoff to take the lead. Fenhoff grabbed the win over Lewis, Floyd, Kirkland Hucks, and Tom Lovett, who slammed the wall coming to the finish line.
Mike Bowman led every lap for his first Modified win of the season over Kyle Whitney, Erica Bowman, Sonny Cox, and Jacky Gerald.
Jeremy Cumbee was the Bell & Bell Vintage Pro Modified winner, while Mark Brown claimed the Sportsman win.
The next event at Lake View Motor Speedway will be Darlington Night next Saturday night, May 4 and will feature the Tony Williams Street Stock special paying $1500 to win and awarding double points, along with Late Models, Stock V8, Modifieds, SCDRA Sport Compacts, Bell & Bell Vintage Modifieds, and the Juicebox/Extreme Drifters.
