NORTHEAST SPORTSMAN MODIFIEDS NOW A REGULAR DIVISION AT LAKE VIEW
- For Immediate Release
LAKE VIEW, SC (April 3) – Lake View Motor Speedway (LVMS) is excited to announce that the 2024 racing season will see the Northeast Sportsman 602 Crate Modifieds as a regular weekly division. It will be the first time the popular division has become a regular class at a speedway outside the Northeast.
LVMS general manager, Tim Clemons, general manager, and track owner, Scott Tripp, grew up in the Northeast with multiple years of owning and racing these type cars, so they are very familiar with them. With the popularity of these cars, mainly in the Northeast and Canada, Tim and Scott are taking the lead role in expanding and growing the class throughout the Mid Atlantic/Southeastern Region of the United States.
“Tim and I have been trying to do this for the past 6 seasons, but with only 1 or 2 cars in 2 states, or only a couple of guys showing interest, we’ve been reluctant because we want to make sure it is a success,” said Tripp. “At the end of the season in 2023, I got a call from Craig Pelligrini in New Jersey, and he asked if we were going to run the ‘South of the Border Showdown” again in February, and I told him no, because I didn’t think there was much interest. After a few phone calls back and forth, Craig talked me into it, telling me there is lot of interest. Once we announced we would host the Showdown in 2024, we found out there were already 4 Northeast Sportsman Modifieds here, another one on the way, all within a few hours’ drive of Lake View. I immediately called Tim and said, ‘If there is ever a time to do it, now is the time, what’s are move going to be’? We both got on our phones and called our resources in the Northeast, and everything just fell right into place. We have amazing support from all of our Northeast friends that we have known for years racing there.”
Each winter since 2019, LVMS has hosted the very popular “South of the Border Showdown” 602 Crate Sportsman race, which is placed geographically and strategically scheduled for racers traveling through South Carolina to the Florida dirt tracks each February.
Lake View Motor Speedway is a 4/10-mile, high banked red clay dirt track located near the South Carolina/North Carolina state line, near Dillon, SC, at the “South of the Border” exit along Interstate 95. The track is located 20 minutes east of I-95, and 45 minutes to the popular tourist destination of Myrtle Beach.
“One of the key factors assuring success for the new class is the fact we must support our new drivers making these (new to them) race car investments,” said Tripp. “We will supply rolling chassis, tires, fuel, and will have parts in stock. We are offering free track testing, chassis set up classes, driver training, and a fair set of track rules from drivers’ input, with a focus on keeping the cost of racing down with a fair and level playing field. We will even have a Northeast Sportsman Modified house car available for our local drivers to come and try before buying one. Our end goal is to have a full 24 car field sometime in 2025, with a $1,500 to win weekly purse. Any chassis manufactures, sponsors, businesses looking to expand, part suppliers, equipment suppliers, etc. that would like to get involved in this ground floor opportunity for growth, please contact us.”
The season opener was Saturday, March 30th and five Northeast Sportsman cars entered for the inaugural event, with three more were scheduled but just were not ready in time.
Any sponsors, businesses looking to grow and expand, chassis manufacturers, parts/ equipment suppliers, etc. that would like to get involved in this ground floor opportunity as we grow, please contact us.
